SCPC/MCPC

In general, the point to point business satellite communications systems establish bit-transparent and protocol-independent, so-called “clear channel” connections directly between two VSAT terminals. Data speed can extend from a couple of kbit/s to several Mbit/s. Systems with point to point VSAT connections are eligible for establishing networks with star, mesh or hybrid topology.

In FDMA systems, communication between individual small size terrestrial stations is provided by independent carriers. In case of SCPC (Single Channel Per Carrier), a single channel pro carrier, and in case of MCPC (Multiple Channel Per Carrier) – by using a multiplexer in front of the modulator –, multiple channels pro carrier are transmitted. Using Fixed Assigned solution, the channel is permanently provided for the connection, and in case of Demand Assigned solution, for the time of the connection, the VSAT devices utilize channels from the channel pool available for all stations.
